Citizen Police Academy

The Corcoran Citizen Police Academy is designed to give members of the community an overview of what police work is really like. The Citizen Police Academy is a miniature version of the police training academy. Participants will receive classroom training in subjects that vary from criminal law to the use of deadly force. Among other things, participants will receive hands on experience in developing latent fingerprints, specialized surveillance equipment, evidence collection as it relates to crime scene investigation, firearms and a canine demonstration. Each member of the class will be invited to ride-along with an officer during a tour of duty. At the end of the academy there will be a graduation ceremony where the Chief of Police will award diplomas.

The Purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to enhance police/community relations. The staff of the Corcoran Police Department believes the success of crime prevention and detection lies primarily with the strong relationship and partnership with the community. Working together is the key to successfully reducing crime in our community.

The instructors will be members of the Corcoran Police Department. We hope that participants of the Citizen Police Academy will not only learn something about police work, but will also get to know the staff of the Corcoran Police Department. Undoubtedly, new friendships will be a side benefit of this experience.

If you are interested in attending the Citizen Police Academy, please contact Sgt. Frank Castellanoz at the Corcoran Police Department at (559) 992-5151 for further details.
