On November 11 -13, 2016, 9 members of the Corcoran Police Department Explorer Program attended the Central Coast Law Enforcement Police Explorer Competition held in Hanford, California at the Kings County Fairgrounds. A total of 26 law enforcement police explorer posts attended the competition.

The competition allows the explorers to take part in different type of simulated scenarios and incidents that a police officer would encounter in the line of duty.  The scenarios that the explorers competed in include crime scene investigation, felony traffic stop, DUI stop, domestic violence, crisis negotiations, building search, along with team activity physical competitions such as obstacle courses.  Explorer advisors also competed during the obstacle course.

The CPD explorers who attended received a 5th place trophy in the five person Tug of War and a 5th place trophy in the Crime Scene Investigation scenario.  Cpl. Daniel Mcalister received a 4th place trophy for the Explorer Advisor obstacle course.

The Explorers is a youth organization affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America that gives teenagers a chance to train with police officers, learning the skills necessary to serve in law enforcement. Like the Scouts, it teaches kids the importance of hard work and community service.  If anybody is interested in joining the CPD Police Explorer program please contact Sgt.
