CORCORAN GENERAL PLAN UPDATE

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES AVAILABLE FROM THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development Department provides the following programs and services:

HOUSING PROGRAMS

The City of Corcoran offers low-interest rate loans to residents of the community for the purchase or rehabilitation of property within the city limits of Corcoran. A qualified applicant must be at or below 80% of median income. The following are types of housing programs offered by the City:

    • Housing Rehabilitation
    • Health and Safety Grants
    • First Time Home Buyer Program

PAINT PROGRAMS

Paint is also offered to homeowners of the community who meet Program criteria in an effort to improve the quality of the neighborhoods in the community. The following are the types of paint programs offered by the City:

    • City Paint Program
    • City Senior/Handicapped Paint Program

    BUILDING INSPECTION

    The objective of the building inspection is to promote the development of better building construction and safety to the public by uniformity in enforcement of building laws.

    CODE ENFORCEMENT

    The objective of code enforcement is to administer and enforce City ordinances, policies and regulations for safety and well being of the public. The following are types of codes and regulations that are enforced:

      • Public Nuisance/Property Maintenance
      • Zoning Enforcement
      • Clean-up Days

    PLANNING

    The objective of planning is to provide streamlined, consistent service to the public that meets the requirements of the City Zoning Ordinance, General Plan, Subdivision Map Act, CEQA and other applicable land use regulations.     BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

    REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY

    The City Council serves as the Redevelopment Agency Board. The Community Development Department has the responsibility for the daily administration of the Redevelopment Agency including budgeting, monitoring, preparation of reports, and implementation of plans. The Department coordinates with the Kings County Housing Authority, Kings County Planning Department, Kings County Economic Development Corporation, and Central Valley Small Business Development Center to carry out the functions of the Agency.

    PLANNING COMMISSION

    The Community Development Department provides technical and administrative assistance to the Planning Commission, which is comprised of seven citizen members appointed by City Council. Depending on the type of application, the Planning Commission reviews and approves proposals or makes recommendations on them to the City Council. The Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of each month in the City Council Chambers at 1015 Chittenden Avenue.
